Hawthorn star Will Day appears to have suffered a significant shoulder injury at training on Thursday.

Vision posted on social media shows the midfielder coming from the field with two trainers, with a potentially dislocated shoulder, using his top as a sling.

It would be an enormous setback for Day, who has battled long-term injuries across his career.

A similar injury to the same shoulder ended his 2024 campaign, adding to the concern.

He then missed the end of the 2025 season with a navicular injury in his foot.

Day had returned to full training on Monday, seemingly overcoming the nasty footy injury, but has now hurt the shoulder again.

The 24-year-old has played 76 games for Hawthorn since being selected in the 2019 draft.

He has emerged as an elite midfielder, and is contracted through to the end of 2027.

Day will be incredibly important to Hawthorn’s premiership hopes as the key piece of their midfield unit, particularly after failing to land Essendon star Zach Merrett in the trade period.

Injury carnage has been the story around the AFL since players returned in January.

Carlton’s Jesse Motlop and North Melbourne’s Jackson Archer suffered torn ACLs, while Collingwood veterans Jeremy Howe, Darcy Moore and Dan McStay have also had setbacks.

GWS stars Toby Greene, Jesse Hogan and Clayton Oliver are all on modified programs after suffering injuries, while Max Gawn fractured a finger at Melbourne training.

Hawthorn will face GWS in Opening Round to kick off their 2026 season.
