He holds the record for the most AFL games ever played for the Port Adelaide Football Club, and now Travis Boak is hoping for another win after listing his Somerton Park home for sale.
The former captain has just listed the 1 Fairfield Ave home he bought in 2013 as he leaves SA after a successful 19-season career with the Power and heads back to his home state of Victoria, where the star midfielder will work with Carlton Football Club’s leadership and culture teams, and also with another business in the leadership space.

“Somerton Park felt very much like Torquay and I remember the first time I went down there on my first trip to SA thinking to myself: ‘I’m going to live here one day’,” he said.
“It’s close to the water and it just felt like a really nice area.
“My mum loves numbers and it’s number 1 and at the time I was captain and she was like: ‘It kind of makes sense’.
“I knocked down and rebuilt and the build was something I had a lot to do with in terms of creating a tranquil space that I can come home to after a game, whether it was a good or a bad result, and I always felt like I was in my own little world.

“It’s double glazed and double brick and super quiet and I felt like I was away from everything, and it gave me time to reset and collect my thoughts away from footy.”
The home sits on a 950sqm block and has up to five bedrooms – or four and a home theatre – several living areas, a covered alfresco retreat with outdoor kitchen and a pool with a water feature.
As much as it has been designed for a family, Boak says for the most part, aside from about six years when he had his sister, her partner and teammate Sam Powell-Pepper living with him on and off, it was his own private space.

“There was plenty of space for four of us, but too much for just me, but I enjoyed it,” he said.
“When I was captain we had a few barbecues there where all the players came around and we’d have some drinks out the back and shared a few nights there, so a few times I housed about 40 players there, so to build those relationships in my tranquil place was really nice.

“I remember having a lot of conversations there in terms of coaches coming over, leadership meetings and chatting to different players we were trying to get to the club there too.”
Now renting in Melbourne, Boak says it’ll be sad to say goodbye to his Somerton Park home, but it was time for a family to love it.
“I knew when I was building it that I was building something I would really enjoy and something I’d love coming home to that was mine, and that eventually I would sell it to hopefully a big family that would enjoy it as well,” he said.

“I was probably not realising how sad I would be when that day came, and that time has come now and I’m sad to be leaving.
“When I was packing up the place it really hit me that I was not coming back here again and wouldn’t be enjoying it anymore, but I’m excited for whoever does buy it.”

Despite heading home to Victoria, Boak says it won’t be the last SA sees of him.
“I really loved every minute of my time in SA,” he said.
“There were certainly a lot of ups and downs and challenges and I wasn’t sure if I was going to stay here at one stage, but SA was amazing to me.
“I love the coastline and the people and love getting down south, and the city was really close.
“I’m so fond of it and I’m so grateful for what Adelaide and SA has given me and the opportunity to live out my dream there.
“I always felt at home and it’s a big part of my life I’ll remember forever.

“I’ve got a lot of footy friends there and a lot of friends outside of footy, so I’ll definitely be coming back a lot and looking forward to it.”
The property is on the market through Ray White Glenelg’s Rod Smitheram.
