Doctors are calling on pharmaceutical companies to charge less for weight-loss drugs on the private market as the federal government grapples with a push to broaden access to the medications beyond people with diabetes and heart disease.

More than 400,000 Australians pay for the blockbuster medicines that can cost up to $700 a month, making them unaffordable for many in Australia, even though they are among the lowest prices for the drug in the world.
