Firefighters swiftly contained an unexpected brush fire behind homes on Rugby Street.

NORFOLK, Va. — Crews responded to a reported structure fire in the 900 block of Rugby Street Saturday afternoon but instead found an outdoor brush fire burning in a wooded area behind several homes, according to Norfolk Fire-Rescue.

Firefighters were dispatched at 1:03 p.m. and deployed two hose lines to contain the flames. The fire was quickly extinguished within 15 minutes, preventing it from spreading to nearby homes.

Officials said no homes were damaged and no one was injured. Fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.
