The NHL is through 15 weeks of the 2025-2026 season. Three weeks remain until the league starts its Olympic break from February 5th to February 18th. There have been many headlines throughout the first 15 weeks, and last week had its own headlines. The Tampa Bay Lightning went on a winning streak that stretched 10 games.

The New York Rangers had a five-game stretch of surrendering a total of 30 goals. The recurring headline is the Colorado Avalanche leading the league in points, point differential, and nearly every team statistical category. Here are the NHL team power rankings heading into Week 16.

32. Vancouver Canucks

Vancouver’s tough season reached a season-high in consecutive losses. Roster talent is an issue, and the team continues to have trouble playing on home ice. The Canucks rank 28th in goals scored per game and 31st in goals allowed per game.

Winnipeg is searching for daylight after suffering an 11-game losing streak from December 15th to January 8th. The Jets continue having issues winning close games. The team’s goaltending has taken a step back after finishing second or better in goals allowed per game in 2023 and 2024.

30. St. Louis Blues

The Blues have issues on the road and possess one of the league’s worst goal differentials. The roster doesn’t possess the talent to compete, and struggles will continue moving forward. St. Louis ranks 32nd in goals scored per game and 29th in goals allowed per game.

29. Calgary Flames

Successful teams find ways to win on the road, and Calgary does not fit into that category. Along with struggling away from home ice, the Flames do not have adequate playmakers and goal scorers. Calgary ranks 31st in goals scored per game.

28. Chicago Blackhawks

Chicago started the season in great form. They were winning games and received production from the offense and the goaltenders. However, this ended when Connor Bedard went down with a shoulder injury. Bedard is back, and the Blackhawks are trying to get back to early-season form.

27. New York Rangers

New York has struggled mightily since goaltender Igor Shesterkin was lost to injury on January 5th. It’s hard for a team to compete without their best goaltender, and the team surrendered 30 goals from January 5th to January 14th. Throughout the season, the Rangers have struggled to light the lamp and rank 30th in goals scored per game.

26. Anaheim DucksNov 22, 2025; Anaheim, California, USA; Anaheim Ducks goaltender Lukas Dostal (1) tends the net during the third period in the game against Vegas Golden Knights at Honda Center. Mandatory Credit: Corinne Votaw-Imagn Images

Anaheim saw a steady start to the season but hit a wall, dropping nine consecutive games from December 22nd to January 10th. During the 11-game struggle, the Ducks scored 21 goals but allowed their opponents to light the lamp 45 times. Goaltending continues to be an issue, and the Ducks rank 32nd in goals allowed per game.

25. Nashville Predators

The Predators are playing better and haven’t suffered consecutive losses since the end of November. However, Nashville continues to be mediocre on offense, defense, and goaltending. On the season, Nashville ranks 25th in goals scored per game and 26th in goals allowed per game.

24. Columbus Blue Jackets

Columbus’ season has consistently seen consecutive wins followed by a longer streak of consecutive losses. The Blue Jackets have improved on the road but have issues with consistency. Goaltending has been a problem, ranking 27th in goals allowed per game.

23. Los Angeles Kings

Struggles on home ice have caused Los Angeles to consistently slide down the power rankings over the past month. It’s important to win games on the road, but it’s imperative to secure victories at home. The Kings’ biggest issue is offense, as the team ranks 29th in goals scored per game compared to 4th in goals allowed per game.

22. Ottawa Senators

Ottawa is the only last-place team, in a specific division, with a winning record at home and on the road. The Senators consistently have issues winning one-score games. On the season, Ottawa ranks 12th in goals scored per game and 27th in goals allowed per game.

New Jersey is inefficient at scoring goals. The Devils rank 27th in goals scored per game. Along with issues with lighting the lamp, New Jersey struggles on the penalty kill, ranking 27th in penalty kill percentage.

20. San Jose Sharks

San Jose has consistently added wins over its past 10 games. The Sharks’ offense ranks 15th in goals scored per game, with center Macklin Celebrini 3rd in league points leaders. The team’s main deficiency is its 30th–ranked goaltending in goals allowed per game.

19. Seattle Kraken

Seattle’s winning record since December 20th has increased its standing in the Pacific Division. The Kraken’s goaltenders have increased production, surrendering more than two goals twice in that timeframe. Seattle must find a way to improve its goaltending as the team ranks 26th in goals scored per game.

18. Florida Panthers

Florida has played well of late, and the Atlantic Division sees 7th place Panthers separated by less than 10 points for the division lead. Every other division sees double-digit point separation between the 7th-place team and the 1st-place team. As the Panthers make their playoff push, the team’s goaltenders must improve on their 27th–ranked goals allowed per game.

17. Philadelphia Flyers

Philadelphia is amid its longest losing streak of the season. Since January 8th, the team has been outscored 31-12. The Flyers’ front office needs to improve their offense as they rank 22nd in goals scored per game.

16. Utah Mammoth

Utah has gone on a run over its last 10 games and currently owns the Western Conference’s top Wild Card spot. Winning two-score games has been key to the team’s recent success. The Mammoth’s goaltenders rank 5th in goals allowed per game.

The Oilers are continuing their chase of the Golden Knights for the Pacific Division lead. Edmonton has suffered consecutive losses only twice since November 20th. Goaltending was a concern early into the season, but January has been the team’s season-low in goals against per game.

14. Toronto Maple Leafs

Toronto is heating up and is on pace for its most monthly wins this season. The Maple Leafs’ increased production has been aided by the team’s goaltenders keeping games close. On the season, Toronto ranks 4th in goals scored per game and 24th in goals allowed per game.

13. Pittsburgh Penguins

From December 9th to the 20th, Pittsburgh suffered an 8-game losing streak. The Penguins dropped important points and slid down the Metropolitan Division. Pittsburgh continues to make up ground but trails the division leading Carolian Hurricanes by less than 10 points.

12. Washington Capitals

Through October and November, Washington lost 11 games. In December and the first two weeks of January, the team has surpassed its total losses from the two months of the season. The Capitals aren’t winning the close games they did early in the season and are now chasing a Wild Card spot.

11. Buffalo Sabres

Following its loss to Calgary on December 8th, Buffalo has won 15 of 18 games. The shift in success has come down to winning games decided by two goals or fewer. Buffalo’s improved goaltending has raised its rank to 20th in goals allowed per game.

Boston suffered a 6-game losing streak from December 18th to the 29th. The Bruins have lost one game in the month of January and trail the division lead by four points. This month, Boston is outscoring its opponents 34-16.

9. New York Islanders

The Islanders are positioning themselves for a playoff berth. The team continues to add points to the standings and hasn’t suffered consecutive losses since mid-December. The team needs to add offensive pieces by the March 6th trade deadline.

8. Vegas Golden Knights

Vegas leads the Pacific Division, and its 7-game winning streak is the longest of the season. The Golden Knights are playing their best hockey of the season, just in time before the NHL’s pause for the Olympics. This season, Vegas ranks 8th in goals scored per game and 13th in goals allowed per game.

7. Montreal Canadiens

Montreal trails the division lead by one point and owns the best record against Western Conference opponents among all Atlantic Division teams. The Canadiens’ offense has continued to produce and ranks 5th in goals scored per game. The team’s goaltenders rank 22nd in goals allowed per game and must improve.

6. Detroit Red Wings

Detroit continues to be one of the best teams in the Atlantic Division. The team’s found success playing dominant hockey on home ice while securing vital wins on the road. Goaltender John Gibson is having one of the best seasons of his career and ranks 3rd in wins.

Carolina has a comfortable lead in the Metropolitan Division. Center Sebastian Aho is on pace to score 30 goals in four of the last five seasons. The Hurricanes rank 3rd in goals scored per game and 11th in goals allowed per game.

4. Minnesota Wild

The Wild have the 2nd–most points in the Central Division but dropped five of their last seven games. In the five losses, the team’s goaltenders are surrendering nearly five goals per game. Minnesota’s goaltenders have nine games to fix issues before the league enters its Olympic pause.

3. Tampa Bay Lightning

Tampa Bay increased its winning streak to 11 games from December 20th to January 13th. In the timeframe, the Lightning moved up to first place in the Atlantic Division. The league’s 2nd–most goaltending was the main factor in the team’s winning streak.

2. Dallas Stars

Dallas has struggled since December 23rd, suffering its highest number of losses of any 10-game span of the season. The Stars have seen decreased offensive production for the first time this season. Dallas ranks 7th in goals scored per game.

The Avalanche’s dominant season has seen the team suffer one regulation loss on home ice. Tampa Bay is the only team to have more away wins than Colorado this season. The Avalanche rank 1st in goals scored and goals allowed per game while suffering consecutive losses only three times this season.
