SIMONA De Silvestro’s impressively diverse sporting career has just reached another new height.
The former Supercars Championship regular has officially qualified for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
While born in Switzerland, De Silvestro will represent her Italian family heritage in the women’s bobsleigh.
The 37-year-old is set to compete in both the monobob and two-woman bobsleigh disciplines, the latter alongside Giada Andreutti.
A six-time starter in each of the Indianapolis 500 and Bathurst 1000, De Silvestro announced her Olympic dream in 2022.
Even after that, she returned to Australia for one last Supercars start (indeed her sixth Great Race appearance) as part of a 2023 Dick Johnson Racing wildcard effort with Kai Allen.
She had previously contested 90 Supercars races (89 of which in Kelly Racing Nissans), not to mention being an IndyCar podium finisher and a former Formula E full-timer.
Italy is the host nation for the 2026 Winter Olympics, to be held across February 6-22.
