THE late Peter Fitzgerald will be honoured by a new category at this year’s Winton Festival of Speed.
Fitzgerald won the inaugural Bathurst 12 Hour in 1991. He passed away at the age of 74 in September 2024.
Celebrating his legacy will be the debut of The Fitzy Cup, dedicated to Porsches with a connection to Fitzgerald or from the same vintage.
The initiative has been given the family’s blessing via Fitzgerald’s son Christian.
“Dad’s connection with the Porsche community was more than just competition, it was about camaraderie, perseverance and a pure love of racing,” he said.
“His motto was ‘never say die’, something that motivated him through tough races, business challenges and, ultimately, his health battles.
“Having The Fitzy Cup named after him at the WFOS is an incredible honour, one that the family and I know would have meant so much to him.
“It celebrates the values he stood for and the legacy he leaves behind.”
The 2026 Winton Festival of Speed will take place across July 23-26.
