Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street legend Michael Le Vell has shared his hopes for another Webster family bombshell, after the huge twist involving Carl and Debbie. Last week, the soap confirmed a popular fan theory that Debbie is Carl’s biological mother, rather than his older sister.

The twist was revealed to viewers when Debbie was seen looking at a baby’s hospital band in a box of mementoes – but Carl has grown up thinking his mum was Elaine and still doesn’t know the truth.

In an exclusive chat with Inside Soap, Michael, who plays Debbie’s brother Kevin, tells us his thoughts on this huge family curveball, and suggests who Carl’s dad could therefore be.

“We thought, ‘oh, that’s a good twist!’” he recalls. “Then we all started putting our subplots on it about who the dad might be. Terry Duckworth could be one, or another one is Brian Tilsley.

“It’s about the same era, but can you imagine that? It would be great for the Platts and Websters to be somehow related!”

Kevin has been in turmoil following his wife Abi’s affair with Carl and the subsequent breakdown of their marriage, and Michael admits that he was sad when the characters split.

“I was gutted, but it’s given us a story to tell,” he explains. “It involved Carl and Debbie, which has been fantastic because without that storyline, we wouldn’t have had all these scenes together. So it’s also a blessing in disguise. But hopefully, they will see that Kevin and Abi actually work well together and they deserve each other!”

But regardless of whether or not Kevin and Abi will ever reconcile, Michael is clear that he doesn’t want his character to reunite with his most famous other half – for a very good reason.

He shares: “I would love nothing more than Kevin and Abi to get back together. Someone said to me the other week, ‘what about Kevin and Sally getting back together?’ And I said, ‘absolutely not’.

“Not because I don’t love Sally Dynevor [who plays Sally], because I do, it’s because I love Sally and Tim together. I think they are a great couple, and it would be such a shame to split them two up.”
