Fanatics, the American sports business that sells merchandise globally for clubs such as the New York Yankees and Paris Saint-Germain, is considering opening a local store and signing a merchandise deal with the NRL, as it plots an expansion in the Australian market.
The company, which counts among its investors SoftBank, Silver Lake and billionaire rapper Jay-Z, already has a foothold in Australia, after signing deals in the past few years to make and sell sports apparel and collectibles for Australian teams including the Matildas, the Socceroos, the AFL, the NRL’s Melbourne Storm and the Wallabies.
