The Arizona Diamondbacks placed reliever Kevin Ginkel on the 15-day injured list with a sprained right shoulder and recalled newly-acquired right-hander Andrew Hoffmann on Monday.
The move is retroactive to Sunday, after Ginkel threw a full inning on Saturday, allowing a hit and striking out two.
The D-backs will have Hoffmann available as they return home for the first time since the trade deadline with a three-game series against the San Diego Padres beginning Monday at 6:40 p.m. MST.
Hoffmann was acquired from the Royals on July 26 in a trade that shipped outfielder Randal Grichuk to Kansas City. The righty has three games of MLB experience this year with the Royals, where he allowed seven hits and struck out five with four walks and two earned runs allowed over 4.2 innings pitched.
The 25-year-old has played in just one game with Triple-A Reno since the deal, going a clean full inning on Friday.
This year with Triple-A Omaha, he appeared in 32 games (40.0 innings), allowing 35 hits, 10 earned runs and a .230 batting average against for a 2.25 ERA and 1.13 WHIP.
