Manchester United interim head coach Michael Carrick will be eager to keep the positive momentum going this weekend when the Reds welcome Fulham to Old Trafford. Carrick’s first two matches back in the United dugout could not have gone any better with wins against Manchester City and Arsenal recorded.

However, Marco Silva’s side pose a different challenge for the Reds. Fulham are expected to play a lot deeper and it will be up to United to try and press the issue during the game. Carrick was asked about whether he needed to adapt his style from the one which worked so well in his first two games.

His response was to stress the need to take each game as it comes and he also emphasised the importance of utilising the full squad at his disposal. That being said, it would take a brave man to change the goalkeeper or the back four this weekend.

Senne Lammens has been outstanding since he arrived as the Belgian returned confidence back to the goalkeeper position. In front of him, Diogo Dalot has benefitted from reverting to the full-back role and a flat defence, as has Harry Maguire who excelled in the victory over Arsenal.

In front of them, Casemiro has started his farewell tour superbly. The Brazilian is looking more and more like the player United initially signed in Erik ten Hag’s first transfer window and has provided the Reds with some fond memories for them to cherish once he has left at the end of the season.

Accompanying him in central midfield should be Kobbie Mainoo. If Casemiro is the past, Mainoo once again looks like the future and is staking a claim for this summer’s England World Cup squad against all odds.

The attack is once again where United could choose to make changes. One will be enforced as Patrick Dorgu’s injury has been confirmed by Carrick as more serious than first thought.

In his absence, Matheus Cunha has to start on the left. United are not blessed with many left-sided options and considering his performance at the Emirates Stadium, he will more than likely be picked.

As for further changes, that would be unlikely. Benjamin Sesko could come in for Amad with Bryan Mbeumo moving to the right flank.

However, the Cameroonian has been so good as a centre-forward. Plus, Carrick may not find it wise to alter personnel too much as he looks to make it three wins from three.
