Hong Kong actress Christy Chung’s daughter Cayla is known for her beauty, but there’s something about her that fans only learned recently.

In a recent livestream, Christy, 55, revealed that her 15-year-old daughter was born with amblyopia, also known as lazy eye.

“She was born with one eye that couldn’t see. It’s congenital. I was taking my eldest daughter to have her eyes checked, and she was just playing [at the side],” she recalled.

Christy has two other daughters, Yasmine Ross, 27, from her first marriage to British businessman Glen Ross, and Jaden, 16, who is, like Cayla, her kids with her second hubby, music producer Jon Yen. The actress is now married to Chinese actor Shawn Zhang, 42.

The actress did not expect her eldest daughter’s check-up would then help them discover her youngest daughter’s condition.

“I asked the doctor if he could check my daughter as well. She was five years old at the time. After examining her, he said: ‘You must take her to see a specialist’.”

Christy was shocked when she realised how serious things were. “One of her eyes was over 1,000 degrees, she basically couldn’t see. She had a lazy eye. I didn’t know!” she exclaimed.

Thinking back, Christy admitted she felt guilty for overlooking the problem for so long, especially since her daughter was only five at that time.

“She was so young, and she didn’t know either. Since birth, she could only see with one eye,” said Christy.

The actress, however, praised her daughter’s for overcoming her condition herself:

“She’s amazing, you know? She covered the stronger eye for two years to train the weaker one. Her vision improved from over 1,000 degrees down to 500,” she beamed.

Christy eventually spent two full years treating her Cayla’s eye and was relieved that her vision has since improved.
