Scottish golfer Calum Hill lost a playoff in the most gut-wrenching fashion as 24-year-old German Freddy Schott claimed his first DP World Tour win at the Bahrain Championship.
After Patrick Reed, who quit LIV Golf last week to path the way for a PGA Tour return, was eliminated at the first playoff hole, Hill melted down at the second extra hole before making the unusual move of conceding.

The 31-year-old pulled his first drive out of bounds to the left before managing to keep his third shot in play.
In between, Schott flirted with danger has his drive hugged the edge of the water on the right-hand side of the fairway, but landed safely in the rough.
The German then missed the green with his approach, leaving himself a tricky short-sided chip and opening the door for Hill to comeback into the contest.
But the 31-year-old Scot’s fourth shot was the stuff of nightmares.
He shanked his wedge to the right with his ball hitting a big screen and bouncing into the water.
Hill recovered to put his sixth shot on the green but once Schott chipped his third shot onto the green, he decided to shake hands to award the German trophy, as if it were a match play contest.

“I have no idea. It’s just amazing, I’m just extremely happy, surprised… I don’t know what’s happening right now. I’m just so happy,” Schott said.
“I could have done it the regular way, that would have also been fine! But to do it this way feels even more special so I’m just glad it happened this way.”
Schott began the final round two shots behind overnight leader Hill but pulled level after a three-under 69 as they finished 17 under par for the tournament alongside former Masters champion Reed.
Reed won the Dubai Desert Classic last week and hauled himself into contention again with a closing 67 in Bahrain.
But Reed found the bunker with his tee shot on the first playoff hole and dropped out of the running, setting up the showdown between Schott and Hill.
