Uruguayans following Los Teros’ campaign at Rugby World Cup 2027 will be in doing so with challenging times. Tournament organizers, World Rugby and Rugby Australia, have allocated Uruguay with late kick-off times for all matches.

Los Teros will play at kick-off times of 5:15pm and 2:45pm local time. They convert into 3:15am and 12:45am in Uruguay. The matches will take place in two different Australian cities and Uruguay played in neither of them when Australia last hosted a a Rugby World Cup in 2003.

The 2003 Uruguay team played in Perth (2), Sydney and Brisbane. The challenge of playing on the Indian Ocean coast and the Pacific Ocean coast will not be repeated for Los Teros in 2027. Notwithstanding, World Rugby and Rugby Australia have handed Uruguay a complicated fixture list wherein they play a match in Newcastle in between two games in Melbourne.

The Rodolfo Ambrosio coached Uruguayans will travel 1,000km on two occasions rather than having the Melbourne matches either first and second or second and third. This reduces the rest time between matches with extra travel required.

Uruguay’s opening match of the tournament will be against Scotland in Melbourne on Sunday, October 03. Game two in Newcastle will be against Portugal on Monday, October 11 while game three, back in Melbourne, will be on Sunday, October 17. Ireland will have an additional day to prepare but will be traveling to Melbourne from Perth.

The match against Ireland will officially open international competition between Los Teros and the Irish. Ireland’s only prior South American opponent is Argentina with the teams facing each-other in pool matches in 2003 and 2007 and beyond in 1999 and 2015.

Uruguay will also face Portugal for the first time at a World Cup tournament after previously crossing paths in RWC repechage for past tournaments. It means Uruguay play exclusively against European opponents in Australia 2027.
