SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly men’s tennis team picked up its second home victory in three days on Monday afternoon, winning all six singles matches again to earn a 6-1 win over New Mexico at the Ronca Tennis Center.
After dropping the doubles point, the Mustangs (2-1) rallied with a dominant showing in singles play to storm past the Lobos (2-4).
Cal Poly earned four straight-set singles victories in the match with Sean Kamyshev picking up the first at No. 5, 6-0, 6-3. Seconds later, Jack Cross secured a 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 to give the Mustangs a lead they would never surrender.
Aaron Eliscu was the next Mustang to finish, dismantling his opponent at No. 6, 6-2, 6-4. Luc Hoeijmans provided the dual clinching point for the Mustangs at No. 3, winning 6-3, 6-3.
The two remaining singles matches both went to a third set. Freshman phenom Jovan Lubbe secured a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 triumph at No. 1 and then Raz Haviv completed a comeback victory at No. 2, winning 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.
All six Mustangs improved to 2-1 in singles play this season.
Cal Poly remains at home to host a pair of matches, welcoming Nevada to the Ronca Tennis Center on Friday at 5 p.m. before wrapping the week on Sunday at 10 a.m. against Loyola Marymount.
