Little Mix alum Jesy Nelson is facing renewed heartbreak, announcing that she and fiancé Zion Foster have recently split.

This sad news comes only weeks after their twin daughters were diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1, a rare genetic condition resulting in muscle wastage.

The singer, 36, revealed that this “traumatising” development had significantly changed the pair’s dynamic, to the point where their relationship had begun to break down.

Their romance eventually became unsalvageable, with the couple of four years officially calling off their engagement weeks after the heartbreaking announcement.

Speaking to The Daily Mail, Nelson revealed that co-parenting their twin daughters was now the pair’s “main priority and focus.”

She went on to say that there had been a a distinct energy shift in their relationship, which made giving daughters Story Monroe and Ocean Jade the “happy and uplifting” upbringing they both deserved impossible.

“Because we have both been through such a traumatic experience, the energy wasn’t right between us, which is understandable,” she said.

“We are still friends and we are still united in co-parenting our daughters, they are our main focus, that’s all we can do, be the best possible parents we can right now.”

Speculation of the pair’s split first arose after Nelson made a recent appearance sans engagement ring.

Speaking with This Morning, Nelson got teary as she detailed the ways in which “her whole life has changed” since the twins’ diagnosis.

“My house looks like a hospital. My whole hallway is filled up with medical stuff and it’s just crazy how you can go from one extreme to the next,” she said.

She revealed that her daughters would likely never walk as a result of their condition.

“Bless little Story, she has to be on a breathing machine at night because she isn’t strong enough to breathe by herself at night,” she continued.

“I have to put feeding tubes down their nose and I’ve had to learn this within a few days of getting their diagnosis, and it’s so much while you’re trying to deal with this horrendous thing that’s just happened.”
