Over 6.3 million Aussies tuned in at some point during Sunday night’s thrilling Carlos Alcaraz victory over Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open men’s final, with an average audience of 3.45m.
The clash between the world’s tennis aces was the highest-rated men’s final since Roger Federer defeated Rafael Nadal in the 2017 final, a matchup widely considered one of the best tennis battles in modern history.
Last night’s average audience of 3.448m was up 67% on the prior year’s final, with the 905,000 broadcast video-on-demand, via 9Now, viewers up by 135.7% year-on-year.
The previous day, the AO women’s final also attracted huge TV audiences, with more than 3.8m viewers tuning into Elena Rybakina’s victory over women’s #1-ranked Aryna Sabalenka, with average audiences of 2.1m.

The average viewership was up 30.1% on last year’s final, and the biggest for a women’s final since Ash Barty’s 2022 victory over American Danielle Collins drew an average of 3.6m.
The women’s final had a 9Now audience of 500,000, a 95.3% year-on-year increase.
Overall, the Australian Open’s 15 days of play pulled a cumulative audience of 14.3m viewers — good news for all those sponsors that shelled out to be a part of Nine’s coverage.
