The NSW cricket community is saddened by the passing of NSW First Class player 512, Barry Bates, aged 86.
A right arm fast medium bowler, Bates played 10 First Class matches for NSW between 1959 and 1961, claiming 26 wickets.
His best figures for the state came against Queensland at the SCG on New Years Day, 1960, taking 4-50.
Bates’ finest representative effort came for an Illawarra XII against the NSW Sheffield Shield team in November, 1960. His 6-65 included the prized wickets of five Test players – Ian Craig, Neil Harvey, Norm O’Neill, Grahame Thomas and Alan Davidson.
Cricket NSW extends its condolences to Barry’s family and friends at this difficult time.
