If, like me, you can’t make it through a movie or TV show without googling everything about it, including the ending, then watching season three of The Summer I Turned Pretty is probably proving torturous.

Based on the third book in the trilogy, We’ll Always Have Summer, author Jenny Han has already teased that the show and book ending may not align. And that fact is driving fans to the point of frenzy, particularly because they (me) can’t google what’s to come.

What we can do, however, is unpack how The Summer I Turned Pretty’s third book ended to ease any growing concerns the brother we’re rooting for (Conrad) will ultimately win Belly’s heart.

So, let’s unpack, shall we? Spoilers ahead (but that’s what you’re here for, no?).

Summer I Turned pretty season three new epsiode

The Summer I Turned Pretty Book Ending

So far, The Summer I Turned Pretty season three is playing out just like the book.

Jeremiah confesses to cheating on Belly but she ultimately forgives him and they get engaged, much to her family’s chagrin. Checks out.

Following this, the group find themselves back at Cousin’s for another summer, where the connection between Conrad and Belly is reignited, ultimately leading to the older Fisher brother confessing his feelings.

The romantic profession doesn’t bode well for Conrad, with Belly choosing to stand by Jeremiah and go through with the wedding.

This is where things get interesting… Remember those letters Susannah was writing back in season two? How they fell on the floor and got all jumbled up?

Well, come Jere and Belly’s wedding day, Jeremiah decides to open his letter and discovers a letter intended for his brother, Conrad.

In the letter, Susannah tells Conrad that she’s only ever seen him happy when he’s with Belly. Obviously, this doesn’t sit well with Jeremiah who confronts Belly about her feelings for his brother – which she denies – before calling off the wedding.

The book ends with an epilogue where we see Belly read her letter from Susannah before time jumping ahead two years to learn she went on to travel, study abroad and live her life for her.

Returning home for her college graduation, Belly is reunited with Conrad, they get back together and ultimately get married.

Who Does Belly End Up With In Season Three?

It’s the question all The Summer I Turned Pretty are waiting with baited breath to have answered: who does Belly pick?

Unfortunately we won’t know until the season three finale. Many believe Jenny Han will stay true to the book ending and have Belly choose Conrad.

But, the author has revealed she did make changes to the story, which Gavin Casalegno then confirmed to us.

“There’s definitely some pretty big changes that I feel like people are going to really appreciate,” Gavin teased in our exclusive interview.
