TROY, Ala. – Troy men’s tennis claimed two wins against West Alabama, 4-0 and 6-1, in doubleheader matches on Tuesday.
Troy (4-2) set the bar with a doubles clinch in the morning match after freshman Ryusei Miyazato and freshman Steph Tavares Noale won 6-4 on Court 1, as well as junior Luciano Alcocer and sophomore Thiago Drozdowski wrapping up a 6-2 victory on Court 3.
Sophomore Hiiro Sakamoto took control as the singles came along, earning the first singles point with Tavares Noale and freshman Ausias Martin Melo following behind.
As the afternoon matches started, the Trojans continued with their winning momentum through the doubles once again, but singles took a slight turn as the UWA Tigers came back just as strong. Graduate Afonso Portugal took the win on Court 2 with a finished match against senior Yeray Andres Pastor, adding a point for UWA.
However, Troy took the remaining five single courts, including a 6-1, 6-4 victory from Sakamoto to clinch the afternoon match.
Looking ahead, the Trojans will hit the road to Georgia for their match against Kennesaw State at the Betty Siegel Courts Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m.
