The oft-rumoured departure of Remco Evenepoel from Soudal-Quick Step has been an annual tradition of the past few seasons.
As the 25-year-old has continued to reach new heights in spite of the noise surrounding the Belgian’s every breath and pedal stroke, he’s added Olympic titles to world titles to Grand Tour victories at an impressive rate.
But despite that, and even a podium spot at his debut Tour de France in 2024, the question has remained of what Remco Evenepoel is leaving on the table by remaining at a team that despite being one of the most successful in cycling history is underpowered and outgunned in stage races compared to the superteams. Given the taste that he’s not so far from a yellow jersey in Paris, Remco Evenepoel is now all about winning the Tour de France, and he thinks Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe is the team that can help him do it.
