PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — The Lloyd Center in Northeast Portland is set to close later this year with plans of tearing down the rest of the mall to be redeveloped.

Plans from the Portland city auditor say the goal is to create up to seven million square feet of mixed-use buildings.

There will also be some commercial buildings and residential buildings for people of varying income levels.

The once bustling Lloyd Center Mall has struggled financially in recent years. It also has been plagued with issues related to homelessness, crime and street takeovers.
