The newest addition to the top five single season assist per game leaders in Knicks’ history is Raymond Felton.

The New York Knicks were established in 1946 and have won two NBA championships in franchise history. Some talented guards have called New York home, and we will dive into the record books and highlight the franchise’s top five leaders in assists per game for a single season.

Mark Jackson -1988, 10.6 APG

The Knicks selected Jackson with the 18th pick in the 1987 NBA Draft. He jumped right into a starting role, averaging 40 minutes over 82 games in his rookie season. He averaged 13.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 10.6 assists and 2.5 steals along the way. That helped him win the Rookie of the Year award and finish 13th in MVP voting.

Michael Ray Richardson – 1980, 10.1 APG

The Knicks selected Richardson with the fourth pick in the 1978 NBA Draft. Following a rookie season in which he logged just 17 minutes per game, Richardson averaged 37 minutes during the 1979-80 campaign. The added playing time translated to averages of 15.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, 10.1 assists and 3.2 steals, with his marks in both the assists and steals columns leading the NBA. Richardson made his first All-Star team that season and also was named to the All-Defensive First Team. Over 315 career appearances with the Knicks, Richardson averaged 14.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 7.1 assists and 2.6 steals per contest.

Stephon Marbury, 2004 – 9.3 APG

Marbury played for the Minnesota Timberwolves, New Jersey Nets and Phoenix Suns before being traded from the Suns to the Knicks joining the Knicks during the 2003-04 season. Across 47 appearances with New York he averaged 19.8 points, 9.3 assists and 1.4 steals. Marbury then spent each of the next four seasons with the Knicks, although he appeared in just 24 games during his final season with the team. Over 287 regular season games with the Knicks, Marbury averaged 18.2 points and 7.0 assists on a per-night basis.

Raymond Felton, 2011 – 9.0 APG

Felton finished fourth in Rookie of the Year voting with the Charlotte Bobcats in 2005-06. After spending five seasons in Charlotte, he signed with the Knicks prior to the 2010-11 season. Felton appeared in 54 contests before being dealt to the Denver Nuggets, averaging 17.1 points, 9.0 assists and 1.8 steals. After playing for both the Nuggets and Trail Blazers, Felton returned to the Knicks for two more seasons before finishing his career with all of the Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Clippers and Oklahoma City Thunder. Over 187 regular season appearances with the Knicks, Felton averaged 13.4 points, 6.6 assists and 1.4 steals per contest.

Mark Jackson, 1989 – 8.6 APG

Following his stellar rookie season, Jackson averaged 16.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, 8.6 assists and 1.9 steals in 1988-89. He made the All-Star team, which was the lone selection of his career. Jackson spent the first five seasons of his career with the Knicks and eventually had a second stint with the team later on. Over an even 500 regular season appearances with the franchise, he averaged 11.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 1.4 steals per game.
