The upcoming Peacock crime drama series “Superfakes” has set its director lineup.
Variety has learned exclusively that Jim McKay, Karena Evans, and Andrij Parekh are all set to direct on the show, which was picked up at the NBCU streamer in January 2025. Evans will direct the pilot, while McKay will direct multiple episodes. Both are also executive producers.
Lucy Liu will lead the cast of “Superfakes,” with additional cast members including Ken Leung, Bohan Phoenix, Michelle Lee Jones, and Keith Leung. The logline for the show states, “A small-time Chinatown luxury counterfeit dealer (Liu) enters a dangerous black-market underworld in order to fund a life of suburban respectability for her family.”
McKay recently worked on Season 3 of the hit Paramount+ series “Tulsa King” as well as shows like “Smoke” and “Black Bird” for Apple TV and “American Rust” at Prime Video. His other credits include “Breaking Bad,” “Mr. Robot,” “The Americans,” and “Better Call Saul.”
Evans has directed on shows like “P-Valley,” “Snowfall,” “Dead Ringers,” “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” and the HBO Max reboot of “Gossip Girl.” She is also the first woman to be honored with the Prism Prize Lipsett Award in 2018, the same year she took home the Best Director at the Much Music Video Awards and Video of the Year at the BET Awards for Drake’s “God’s Plan.”
Parekh won an Emmy for outstanding directing for “Succession” in 2020, receiving a nomination in the same category for the show in 2024 for its final season. He had also directed episodes of HBO shows like “Watchmen” and “House of the Dragon.” Parekh is a celebrated cinematographer as well, working on films like “Half Nelson,” “Mississippi Grind,” “Blue Valentine,” “Roofman.”

The series hails from creator Alice Ju, who will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. In addition, Josh Safdie and Benny Safdie will serve as executive producers along with Howard Klein and Olivia Gerke of 3 Arts. Ronald Bronstein and Eli Bush also executive produce, along with Liu, McKay, and Evans. A24 and UCP will produce.
