JACKSONVILLE. Fla. – North Florida Women’s Tennis improved to 4-0 on the season in thrilling come-from-behind fashion, defeating South Florida, 4-3, at USF Varsity Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The Ospreys fought hard in doubles action to open the match and ultimately dropped the first point to South Florida.
Down 3-0 in the match amid singles play, freshman May Fadida showed relentless effort to cut USF’s lead to 3-1 behind a 7-6, 6-3 win on court three. Graduate Anslee Long cut North Florida’s deficit to 3-2 with a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 victory on court five.
Seniors Laurie Barendse and Gabby Goyins delivered a pair of clutch wins on courts one and four to help reach the eventual final margin. Barendse saved two team match points in her victory, down 6-5, 40-30 in the third set.
