CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The University of Northern Iowa women’s tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to North Dakota on Saturday afternoon at the Black Hawk Tennis Center. 

UNI earned its lone point of the dual in singles play at the top of the lineup, where Lucia Schuknecht delivered an impressive performance. Playing at the No. 1 position for the first time this season, Schuknecht defeated Ethel Li in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5. The Panthers adjusted their singles lineup due to an injury, resulting in each player moving up one position. 

North Dakota claimed the doubles point with three narrow victories. At No. 1 doubles, Ethel Li and Jule Schulte edged out Andjela Raznatovic and Schuknecht, 6-4. The Fighting Hawks followed with wins at No. 2, as Alva Norberg and Andrea Puneda topped Yangjiaxin Li and Andrea Noa Galin, and at No. 3, as Emma Roberts and Alyssa Giupponi defeated Kayla Santosa and Kanyanut Sudsaard, both by 6-4 scores. 

In singles action, North Dakota secured the remaining matches. At No. 2, Jule Schulte defeated Yangjiaxin Li, 6-0, 6-1. Alva Norberg earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Andrea Noa Galin at No. 3, while Alyssa Giupponi picked up a 7-5, 6-1 win against Kayla Santosa at No. 4. Simone Cameron battled past Abbie Peterson, 7-5, 7-6, at No. 5. The final point came at No. 6 where Emma Roberts defeated Kanyanut Sudsaard in a match tiebreak, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7.
