Hosted by Wellington City Council, in partnership with local businesses and community organisations, the event is part of the Aotearoa Bike Challenge, a month-long celebration of cycling across Aotearoa.Â
From 7.30am to 9am on Tuesday 10 February, it’ll be a morning to celebrate Wellington’s cycling community with free kai, coffee, giveaways, and activities for everyone who rides in. Â
Whether you’re commuting, cruising, or giving biking a go for the first time, it’s a fun and relaxed way to celebrate Wellington’s growing cycling scene.Â
If you don’t have a bike, no worries – come along anyway to learn about local bike hire and share options from Switched On Bikes, Flamingo, and other local partners.Â
Get involved with the Aotearoa Bike ChallengeÂ
Taking part in the Challenge is easy – just register online, hop on your bike for at least 10 minutes during February, and you’ll go in the running for heaps of prizes, including a Specialised eBike worth $3,500, thanks to Workride!Â
Last year, over 3,700 Wellingtonians from more than 400 workplaces took part in the national event, collectively riding 450,000 km and saving nearly 37 tonnes of COâ‚‚. With the Challenge already rolling through February, Go by Bike Day helps build on that momentum – encouraging even more people to experience the everyday joy and freedom of getting around by paihikara/bike.Â
Wellington City Council warmly thanks all its local partners, including Dough Bakery, Mug Cycle / Tuatua Café, Cycle Wellington, EkeRua ReBicycle, My Ride Wellington, Switched On Bikes, Flamingo, Greater Wellington Regional Council, and Bicycle Junction, for helping make this event possible.Â
