One of the things Samsung’s latest smartwatches have in common is the Cushion Design, defined by a circular screen on top of a squircle base. If you’re not a fan of the Cushion Design, your best smartwatch choice is the Galaxy Watch 7 from 2024, which is now available at a discount. And so is the Watch 8.
At the moment, you can save $40 on the Galaxy Watch 7 and an extra $50 when you trade-in an older smartwatch at Samsung’s e-shop in the USA. In total, you can save $90 and buy the Galaxy Watch 7 for as low as $209. But is it worth it?
That depends on how much you like the 2024 design and how much you want to avoid the Cushion squircle look. It also depends on whether you have an old smartwatch you can trade.
To put things in perspective, you can technically buy the Galaxy Watch 8 for even less than $209. Galaxy Watch 8 buyers get much better trade-in discounts of up to $200, which means you could buy the Watch 8 for as low as $149.
The Galaxy Watch 8 runs One UI 8 Watch out of the box, and as of this writing, Samsung has yet to release the update for the Galaxy Watch 7. The company should roll out One UI 8 Watch by the end of the year.
Also worth noting is that, apart from how it looks, the Cushion Design has practical benefits. According to Samsung, the squircle design, combined with the Dynamic Lug system, helps the Galaxy Watch 8 fit more snugly on the wrist.
As a result, even though the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch 8 have the same BioActive sensor, the newer model’s design improves health and fitness tracking accuracy.
All things considered, the Galaxy Watch 8 is technically a better smartwatch, and it can be cheaper with the right trade-in deal. But if you really want the Watch 7 instead, you can save some cash through the ongoing limited-time discount. Which one will you pick?
