A TAMESIDE-TRAINED MMA fighter is to compete for arguably the biggest prize in the discipline – a UFC contract.
Louis Lee Scott, a member of Ashton-under-Lyne’s Manchester Top Team, is flying to Las Vegas to compete on the Dana White Contender Series.
As temperatures reach the 40s outside, the action will be as hot in the Nevada city’s Apex Arena, where the man known as Lightning will meet Kaushik Saikumar in a five round bantamweight bout.
And the prize to the winner is an almost certain UFC contract.

“Dana White is chief executive of the UFC and with an impressive win, I’ll be signing up to the UFC,” said 25-year-old Louis, who hails from the Morley area of Leeds but trains at Manchester Top Team’s Boodle Street base.
“In doing so I’d become the first UFC fighter from Leeds and the only current Yorkshireman in what is, let’s face it, the promotion that’s every fighter’s ultimate ambition.”
Louis, who trains under Carl Prince at Manchester Top Team, is undefeated as a professional MMA fighter having won seven of nine professional bouts since 2019 by stoppage and two by decision.
His latest victory was in Paris last January when he defeated French fighter Youssoff Binate on the ARES Fighting Championship.
Louis also had a distinguished record in amateur MMA, starting aged 16 and winning 14 of 16 contests.
“I’ve been working with Louis since he was 16, aiming for the UFC,’ said Mr Prince.
“Louis has everything wanted in a professional athlete. A supreme talent with an unmatched work ethic.
“I’m expecting a fantastic showing from Louis. He’ll leave with his first multi-fight UFC contract and his name will be etched in northern fight folklore for decades to come.”
Louis may have the skill, the attitude, the work ethic and the training – but he also has the backing of his mum, Sarah Lee.
She said as he heads out on Monday, August 11: “Louis has been working towards this for 15 years. It’s all he focuses on.
“He’s super dedicated and his life is pretty much spent training. He’s totally disciplined with his food and constantly studies how he can improve his fight technique.
“We’re all proud of how committed he is to be achieving his life’s ambition to fight in the UFC.”
