France Rugby arrives in Cardiff as a heavy Six Nations favorite, but history ensures that Wales vs. France at Principality Stadium will carry more than rankings into Round 2.

The rivalry is one of the most evenly matched in international rugby history, with the all-time series tied at 51 wins apiece and three draws. A French victory would give Les Bleus the outright series lead for the first time ever.

France opened the championship with an emphatic 36–14 win over Ireland, reinforcing its status as the No. 4 team in the world and a leading contender for the Six Nations title.

The French have also dominated this fixture recently, winning five consecutive Six Nations meetings against Wales, including a 43–0 victory in 2025. Since Wales’ dramatic 20–19 win over France in the 2019 Rugby World Cup, the Welsh have dropped seven straight matches against Les Bleus.

Wales enters after a difficult Round 1 performance, falling 48–7 to England in London. Ranked No. 11 in the world and outside the top 10, Wales is seeking stability and momentum against a French side in strong form.

The venue adds intrigue: Principality Stadium has long been one of rugby’s most imposing arenas. Although France has controlled the rivalry in recent years, Wales’ historic early dominance — winning the first 15 meetings from 1908 to 1927 — underscores the depth of tradition in a matchup that could reshape the series record once again.
