The unprecedented public discussion around GLP-1 receptor agonists is raising the risk of patients with eating disorders escalating harmful behaviours, the director of a specialist clinic warns.

Patients with eating disorders have presented to clinicians having taken or been prescribed GLP-1 receptor agonists (RAs), says Dr Kate Murphy, director and consultant psychiatrist for the public Queensland Eating Disorder Service.

“When people are losing weight, that seems to grab the attention of the population, unfortunately,” she tells AusDoc.

“I drive up and down the highway, and I see adverts for medical weight loss.
