New increase in minimum wage ahead

Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis

The next increase in the minimum wage will be announced before Easter, in early April, Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis said on Tuesday on SKAI TV.

This increase follows the previous one from €650 to €880 per month and is in 11th place among EU countries that have a minimum wage. Hatzidakis also referred to the increases in wages due to the reduction in income tax.

“We are exhausting the budget margins,” he noted. “The New Democracy government, unlike the opposition, does not have magic recipes for increasing incomes, because such recipes do not exist. But it is moving forward with pro-growth policies, with support for healthy entrepreneurship, tax cuts, environmental improvement and wage and pension increases to the limit of what is feasible,” he added.

In response to a question regarding the end of the Recovery Fund and the possibility of a reduction in financial support from the EU, the deputy prime minister stressed that the assessment that Greece will not receive substantial support from the EU in the next period (2028-2034) is incorrect. “The support will be almost the same as currently,” he said.
