New Zealand-born singer Lorde is Down Under for the Australian leg of her Ultrasound World Tour, but she has left fans perplexed when she stripped down to her underwear on stage.

The Kiwi alt-pop singer, known for her treadmill-running antics in her latest live performances, first emerged into the spotlight in 2013 at 16 years of age, when her breakout single Royals reached number one on the Billboard 100.

After a detrimentally underperforming and disappointing release of her album Solar Power in 2021, she’s back with a bang in this melodramatic, sweaty, and emotional tour, Ultrasound.

Yet during her Sydney show, some fans and onlookers were left shocked and confused as the 29-year-old pop star stripped down to her underwear, not redressing until much later.

The daring singer began undoing her belt during her third song, ‘Broken Glass’, and progressively let her jeans fall to the ground, resulting in a half-naked performance as she sang her new song ‘Current Affairs’ in crimson underwear.

This comes after her eccentric Brisbane performance, where she also stripped bare to her underwear, then proceeded to pour water all over herself while exclaiming “Oh Brisbane, that s*** makes me thirsty”.

The popstar, who has previously been in the spotlight for reasons other than her music, has been told to “please keep clothes on” by some video footage commenters and called “absolutely ridiculous” by others.

“Hope she gets the help she needs,” one wrote on social media.

“For the love of keep it on please,” wrote another.

The singer later reclaimed her jeans, only to strip off her shirt for her ‘Man of the Year’ performance, wearing nothing but gaffer tape in place.

Yet those who have been avid followers of Lorde’s musical career have nothing but five star reviews for the singer and her recent concerts.

“I can’t even explain how good that concert is,” one concertgoer said.

“It brought me back to OG concerts… everyone was just themselves,” she continued.

Lorde is set to perform for a second time at Qudos Bank Arena on Thursday before making her way to Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on February 21 and 22, followed by Perth’s RAC Arena on February 25.
