WATCH out for Triple Eight to lean on its newfound Ford relationship in some type of spectacular way at next week’s Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.
Since 2013, Triple Eight has enjoyed a level of F1 connectivity through its Red Bull affiliation.
That’s seen the likes of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez sample Supercars, and conversely afforded Broc Feeney and Will Brown the chance to hop aboard an F1 car late last year.
Now the planets are more aligned than ever, with Ford Racing deepening the links between the Red Bull Supercars and F1 programs.
“We had a great relationship obviously for 16 years (with General Motors) but there is a lot of opportunity now with Ford, which we’re hugely excited about and we’ll see some more stuff coming through as we head into the Grand Prix with some activations and so on,” said Triple Eight commercial director Tom Wilson.
“There’s some good stuff coming and that’s going to carry on for the next few months.”
Those comments were made in the Sunday post-race press conference in Sydney, with Feeney complementing those words by mimicking a grenade lob.
Asked if that might involve more F1 seat time for the likes of Feeney, Wilson replied: “Broc has already done that. No, that’s not what’s happening.
“We’ve done that one; we don’t like to do the same thing twice.
“You’ll have to wait and see.”
Supercars and Carrera Cup will get track action started at Albert Park on Thursday March 5 before F1, F2 and F3 roll out for their first sessions of the new season the following day.
