Could the Bruins land Blues defenseman Justin Faulk with this trade pitch?

After a disappointing 2024-25 season, the Boston Bruins have bounced back nicely in 2025-26. At the time of this writing, the Bruins have a 32-20-5 record and hold the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference with 69 points. With the Bruins still being in the playoff race at this point in the season, there is an expectation that they will be buyers at the 2026 NHL deadline.

The St. Louis Blues, on the other hand, are currently one of the worst teams in the NHL. At the time of this writing, they have a 20-28-9 record and have the second fewest points in the league with 49. Due to this, the Blues are one of the NHL’s top sellers to watch leading up to the deadline.

When looking at the Blues’ trade candidates, defenseman Justin Faulk is one player who would be a clear fit on the Bruins’ roster. It is no secret that the Bruins need another impactful right-shot defenseman, and bringing in a blueliner like Faulk would provide them with just that.

Due to this, we here at Heavy Sports have a trade pitch that would have the Blues send Faulk to the Bruins in a big swap.

Bruins Have Been Linked to Blues’ Justin Faulk

With the Bruins needing a top-four right-shot defenseman, they have been linked to Faulk this season. In a recent article for RG, James Murphy reported that the Bruins and Blues have had “a lot” trade discussions regarding Faulk this campaign.

“They have been talking for a while now,” Murphy’s source said about the Bruins and Blues, “Sweeney and Armstrong have been together a lot, and I’m told they’ve talked a lot on Faulk. He fits that void Sweeney’s been trying to fill and you saw that with the way he went after Andersson before he was traded to Vegas.”

Hearing that the Bruins have expressed interest in Faulk is not difficult to understand. He is easily one of the top right-shot defensemen on the trade market right now and would certainly give the right side of the Bruins’ blueline a significant boost if acquired.

Faulk would give the Bruins another legitimate top-four right-shot defenseman, which is their biggest need right now. When looking at a specific spot in the Bruins’ lineup where Faulk could fit, their second pairing with Hampus Lindholm stands out. Furthermore, he would give Boston another puck-moving offensive defenseman to work with for their power play.

Faulk Would Help Bruins Beyond This Season

With the Bruins being a team focused on both the present and future, Faulk stands out as an excellent fit for them. This is because Faulk would be more than a rental for the Bruins if acquired, as he has a $6.5 million cap hit until the end of the 2026-27 season. This adds to his appeal, as he would help the Bruins beyond this season.

Ultimately, with the Bruins in need of another star defenseman, Faulk is exactly the kind of blueliner that they should make a big push for. In 57 games this season, the 33-year-old has recorded 11 goals, 19 assists, and 30 points.
