It was core to the Breaking Bad plot, the TV series about chemistry teacher Walter White.
This is the idea that his terminal lung cancer diagnosis propelled him into a new life in the underworld methamphetamine trade.
But it seems there is some truth in the suggestion that a cancer diagnosis opens the doors to crime.
Researchers from the University of Copenhagen decided to test what they dub the “Breaking Bad effect” following evidence of an increase in crime by older individuals with otherwise clean records.
