EastEnders spoilers follow.

In tonight’s episode of EastEnders, Penny Branning and Vinny Panesar made a life-changing decision about her pregnancy as the baby storyline began.

Viewers know that, earlier this week, Jack found an unopened pregnancy test, so he teamed up with Denise to find out who it belonged to. After Penny came clean, she lied and said she had taken a test that was negative, with Jack voicing his relief.

Penny reached out to Lauren, discussing all the challenges she would face as a young mother with a disability.

When Oscar accidentally told Vinny about Penny’s pregnancy test, he rushed over to see his girlfriend in search of answers.

In yesterday’s episode, Vinny wasn’t sure how to handle the situation with Penny, as he didn’t want to pressure her, so he sought advice from Harry in the pub.

Penny interpreted this as Vinny not being interested, but she said he could come to her GP appointment the next day.

In tonight’s (26 February) episode, Penny allowed Vinny to accompany her to a doctor’s appointment to discuss her options surrounding the pregnancy.

At the appointment, Penny became irritated when the doctor appeared to sideline her in the conversation, explaining to Vinny what support they could expect if she decided to keep the baby.

After the doctor told Vinny that he would need to help Penny with “practical stuff”, Vinny said: “I think Penny can tell us what she needs.”

Later, the couple had a heart-to-heart, with Penny asking Vinny what he wanted. “I want to be that person by your side. I want to help you go through this, night feeds, all of it,” he replied.

When Penny asked if Vinny wanted to be a dad, he said: “Yeah, if you’re the mum.”

“Today, you being there for me, it felt… I think I want this, with you,” Penny said, and the couple decided to have the baby.

EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
