In its first loss against a mid-major opponent, NIU women’s tennis (10-3) fell to the Bradley University Braves (4-5) in a 4-3 loss on Friday. 

The Huskies went down early, dropping the doubles point with losses at No. 1 and No. 2. Senior Jenna Horne and sophomore Irmak Budak were up 5-3 at No. 3 when the match was unfinished. 

NIU nearly came back in singles, splitting matches with the Braves, but were unable to complete the comeback win. 

At. No. 3, senior Nataly Ninova earned a three-set victory over Braves senior Mariia Pukhina. Ninova dropped a close 7-6 second set, before controlling the third 6-3 for the victory. 

Continuing a now six-match winning streak, freshman Rebeca Garcia Miralles took a two-set victory over freshman Ann Hsieh. With the win, Garcia Miralles is 6-1 in singles matches on the season, going undefeated since her loss at No. 6 singles in the Huskies’ season-opening loss against the University of Wisconsin-Madison. 

Senior Isabella Righi was up 6-4, 2-1 against junior Compassion Tsai when Tsai retired from the match, giving Righi the win.
