First established in 1931, the Bledisloe Cup remains one of the most iconic trophies in international rugby. Named after Lord Bledisloe, then New Zealand’s governor-general, the cup symbolizes one of the sport’s fiercest rivalries: New Zealand vs. Australia.
The All Blacks won the first Bledisloe series in 1931 and have dominated ever since. In 179 total meetings, New Zealand holds a commanding 126-8-45 record over the Wallabies, including a 10-match win streak entering 2025. The last Australia victory came in 2020.
While the rivalry is historic, it has been largely one-sided in recent years. New Zealand retained the cup again in 2024 with a clean sweep in the Rugby Championship. The two sides will meet twice in 2025—first at Eden Park in Auckland on Sept. 27, and then at Optus Stadium in Perth on Oct. 4.
