Each month, Podcast Review’s staff offers recommendations on the best new shows to listen to. Here are our favorite podcasts for March.
Another celebrity video podcast? Say it ain’t so. But when we heard the premise of Friends Keep Secrets, the new comedy show from best friends benny blanco, Lil Dicky (Dave Burd), and Dave’s wife, Kristin Batalucco, we wondered if maybe (just maybe) this podcast might overcome our reservations.
Much like an even lower budget series of Big Brother, the trio have filled Dave and Kristin’s LA home with 18 hidden cameras to document something called an “intimate hang,” including some of the hosts’ real-life friendships and the guests who just so happen to pop in. How will the audio-only version of this “podcast” stand up?
13 Minutes Presents: Artemis II
We are big fans of this space podcast from the BBC. But when we heard that Kevin Fong wasn’t returning, we worried that the new series on Artemis II wouldn’t meet our expectations. But the novelty of following a new moon mission every day for two weeks promises new kinds of thrills, as well as new hosts: space scientist, Maggie Aderin-Pocock, and British astronaut, Tim Peake, and US space journalist Kristin Fisher.
The mission will send four astronauts to loop around the Moon on a spacecraft called Orion. They plan to go further from Earth than any human in history. We can’t promise an accurate start date for this podcast, as the launch has been repeatedly postponed by NASA, but you can subscribe to the feed for live updates.
For true crime fans, Frozen Files will be a welcome companion while the blizzard blows over. The show, which may or may not have been named by way of a quick search of synonyms for “cold case,” is about unsolved murders.
With just a few episodes out, Madison McGhee’s Frozen Files is already a hit with listeners. It’s easy to hear why. The format is clear, the mission admirable. This is a show that doesn’t just examine the facts behind failed investigations; it questions why cases remain cold and whether systems have failed these victims. New episodes every Monday.
