History

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Hamilton College swept the six singles matches and the Continentals coasted to a 7-0 non-conference win against the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers inside RIT’s Gordon Field House on Sunday afternoon, March 1.
 
Season Update


Hamilton (2-0 overall) finished a perfect weekend – the Continentals also defeated University of Rochester 6-1 on Feb. 28.
The Tigers (3-5) dropped their fourth straight match.

 

How It Happened


Hamilton captured the team doubles point with decisive wins at Nos. 3 and 2 doubles (in that order).
In singles play, the Continentals won the first set in four of the six matches.
Of the two matches that went the distance, Hamilton won both in third set super-tiebreakers.
Seven different Continentals contributed to the win.
Grace Qian ’27 clinched the victory with a win at No. 4 singles.

 

Notes


Qian and Samantha Rainero ’26 won both their singles and doubles matches. Qian and Lila Freeman ’26 teamed up for the first time and cruised to victory at No. 3 doubles. Qian won the 25th singles match of her Hamilton career.
Rainero and Mona Farah ’29 breezed to the win at No. 2 doubles. Rainero leads the Continentals with seven doubles wins and Farah is right behind her with six. Rainero owns a team-best 9-3 singles record this season.
Hannah Walpole ’26 (No. 1 singles) collected her 26th career singles win and Priyanka Challapalli ’27 (No. 2) registered her 21st.
Muhan Cui ’28 improved to 7-3 this season with her triumph at No. 5 singles.

“This was a solid overall weekend for our team. We competed well today again in both singles and doubles. I am proud of this group. We’ve been working very hard on the practice courts and it showed in our performances this weekend. We are looking forward to our next set of matches.”
