SUPERCARS teams are rejoicing the opportunity to share video content with fans from this weekend’s Melbourne SuperSprint thanks to a relaxing of restrictions.
In years gone by, a blanket rule has applied banning any form of filming inside the Albert Park precinct given broadcast rights at the Australian Grand Prix event are with Formula One Management.
This time around, Supercars teams have been granted the ability to bring one designated videographer to film in the garage and paddock area, provided the resulting content is not commercialised.
Vision from pitlane or the track remains off limits.
“This weekend will be extra special for the Supercars teams with their engagement with fans, because we are going to get extra access to create our own digital communication to our fans from inside the track,” Walkinshaw TWG chief Bruce Stewart said to V8 Sleuth.
“There are some restrictions but what it means is we can bring the stories to life around our drivers and our team.
“It certainly shows greater collaboration and an amazing opportunity created by FOM and Supercars to allow us this.”
An increase in collaboration had already led to a positive outcome last year, with the Supercars paddock moved to a location to which fans flocked.
“Sometimes you can have, when you initially look at the schedule, a little bit of frustration at the early starts and the late ends. But ultimately where we are in the precinct now means we have got an amazing opportunity to engage with a huge amount of fans,” said Stewart.
“It certainly is Melbourne and Victoria’s largest event, and an amazing event for our corporate partners as well, as they have access to F1 action in association with their Supercar love.”
Track action starts today for Supercars and Carrera Cup, with F1/F2/F3 firing up from Friday.
