One major MCU star was recently asked if he’d be open to returning to the world of Marvel for Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, and gave a surprising answer.

What MCU villain would be open to returning?

Speaking during a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Josh Brolin — who played Thanos throughout the MCU — was asked if he would ever come back if the Russo Brothers asked him to. While some might have expected him to say no, Brolin said he’d gladly do so if asked.

“I’ve said it, Deadpool 2, I’m glad it was one experience. The Thanos thing, if they called me in London right now and said, ‘Let’s do this,’ I’d be like, ‘I’ll be there tomorrow,’” said Brolin. “Of course, they’re going to come up with something really fun. And I mean, who knows? Who knows? That was a ten-year building kind of thing. That was its own kind of book-ended deal. And I don’t know what they’re going to do, but I’m sure it’ll be interesting.”

While it’s unlikely that Thanos would actually appear in Avengers: Doomsday, a cameo appearance in Secret Wars wouldn’t be out of the question. With a multiverse’s worth of characters to play with, the Russo’s could potentially feature the iconic MCU villain one more time if they wanted to.

Doomsday is led by Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, but also includes Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby’s Invisible Woman/Sue Storm, Anthony Mackie’s Captain America, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Letitia Wright’s Shuri/Black Panther, and Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man.

More names for the upcoming movie include Wyatt Russell’s U.S. Agent/John Walker, Tenoch Huerta’s Namor, Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s The Thing/Ben Grimm, Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, Kelsey Grammer’s Dr. Hank McCoy/Beast, Lewis Pullman’s Bob/Sentry, Danny Ramirez’s Joaquin Torres/Falcon, Joseph Quinn’s Johnny Storm/Human Torch, David Harbour’s Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Winston Duke‘s M’Baku, Hannah John-Kamen‘s Ava Starr/Ghost, and Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki.

Avengers: Doomsday is slated to release in theaters on December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars is set to release on December 17, 2027.
