36th over – Sutherland might bowl all night

Jemimah Rodrigues is the big wicket now. Sutherland gets a crack at her here.

35th over – Gardner to bowl her fifth

With the left-handed Deepti now out, I wouldn’t mind giving Alana King a look at things. Gardner continues for now.

Rodrigues sweeps with the spin to midwicket for one.

Miserly as ever from Ash Gardner. One run from that over.

34th over cont – Sutherland has five to come

Richa Ghosh is in the middle now, with Rodrigues badly needing a partner for the long haul.

A BEAUTY! How has Richa survived that one? Another ripper of an inswinger that cut the batter in half, taking the pad but not the stumps.

A wicket maiden from Sutherland, who is bowling brilliantly.

OUT! Sutherland has Sharma caught behind attempting to leave!

Don’t see that one too often! Sutherland got one to swing back in to Sharma, who attempted to leave it but left the bat in the path of the ball. It ran along the face of the bat almost on its way through to Mooney’s gloves.

A poor way to get out, but more good bowling from Annabel Sutherland is rewarded.

34th over – Sutherland to bowl another

10m agoFri 6 Mar 2026 at 8:22am

33rd over – Gardner to bowl another

She’s getting a look at the right-handed Rodrigues now, and is getting more spin on that side of the wicket it seems.

Gardner gets a little too straight and Rodrigues gets after it, dropping to a knee for an aggressive sweep shot. Only for two as Sutherland tracks it down.

Well defended by Jemimah, two off it.

15m agoFri 6 Mar 2026 at 8:17am

32nd over – Sutherland to bowl a third

Loose down the leg side to start with, but Rodrigues can’t get it away.

Nicely punched through cover by Rodrigues, who helps herself to a single.

Deepti defends the rest of the over, so it’s just the one run from it. Slow and steady start to this session.

18m agoFri 6 Mar 2026 at 8:14am

31st over – Gardner again

SWING AND A MISS! Another sweep shot, another lucky break for Deepti. Too much spin and bounce for that shot.

Deepti gets bat on that sweep shot, but it’s a skewed top edge that falls into space for two.

Gardner is troubling Deepti, and the Aussie fielders around the bat are loving it. All sorts of noise being made, but Sharma keeps that set out. Two from it.

30th over – Sutherland to bowl again

Rodrigues is on strike and defending solidly from the crease.

Half a shout from Sutherland as one dips back sharply at Jemimah’s front pad, but I think that was mostly bat on the ball.

It’s another maiden to Sutherland’s name, a very tight over indeed. Six balls on the money, Rodrigues taking no chances.

29th over – Ash Gardner will continue

Gardner’s first over after the break was fairly promising, as she managed to extract a bit of turn from the wicket. She’ll be keen to have a look at Deepti here and look to attack that outside edge.

THROUGH HER! Very aggressive attempted sweep from Deepti, and that one spun and bounced past the pad and the stumps. Risky shot on a bouncy WACA deck.

Mark Gardner down for another maiden.

28th over – Annabel Sutherland will kick us off again

Welcome back. Australia took the momentum into the break and will hope Sutherland can carry it on upon return. Deepti Sharma on strike.

Bit of movement back into the left-handed Sharma, striking her on the thigh and nearly finding a deflection back to the stumps.

Inside edge now, down to fine leg and away for a single. And there’s India’s 100 up.

Neatly turned through square leg by Rodrigues, and they’ll get back for two.

Three runs from the first over of the session.

Dessert break?

If this is ‘tea’ Dean , what’s the next break called ? Supper?

– Phillip

I believe it’s technically called dinner, but supper is more quaint.

I used to prefer it when the long break in the day-night tests was the second one, but I think the players prefer it this way. Wouldn’t you want more time at dinner though? Rather than an extended afternoon tea?

1h agoFri 6 Mar 2026 at 7:24amThat’s tea! India 4-99 (Rodrigues 15*, Sutherland 2-26)Annabel Sutherland(Getty Images)

A good first session for Australia, four wickets probably justifying the decision to bowl first here at the WACA. Lucy Hamilton’s first Test wicket was the highlight of the morning, an absolute beauty knock over Smriti Mandhana.

Annabel Sutherland bowled well for her two poles, and Darcie Brown worked hard for her lone wicket. Tahlia McGrath was close to the pick of the bowlers despite not taking a wicket in that session.

India’s run rate is solid and is keeping the scoreboard respectable at the minute. A big partnership or two is certainly required from this middle order as Australia looks to take a strong early grip on this game.

27th over – Ash Gardner to bowl the last before tea

Some spin before the break then, with Gardner tossed the ball. Rodrigues on strike.

Bit of turn on offer for Gardner here. Rodrigues defends from the crease.

Now she’s brought forward, but smothers the turn well.

And there’s a maiden. A lovely over to end the session for Australia.

1h agoFri 6 Mar 2026 at 7:16am

26th over – Hamilton in again

FOUR! Rodrigues drives sweetly through mid-on, though perhaps McGrath could have done more to stop that one before it broke through the in-field. Another boundary.

Rodrigues drives and gets a thick inside edge behind her legs, away for a single. Didn’t know a whole lot about that one.

Mooney dives down the leg side to take the ball as Hamilton jags one back in to the left-handed Deepti Sharma. Took a bit of pad on the way through too, that is excellent keeping.

Five from that over, and we’ll have time for one more.

1h agoFri 6 Mar 2026 at 7:12am

25th over – Brown to bowl another

IN THE AIR! FOUR! Cut in the air by Deepti Sharma, just wide of a diving Hamilton at gully. It’s another one that looked catchable but finds a gap.

There’s a buzz among the Australian fielders, particularly those behind the wicket, as they look to force one more breakthrough before the tea break. They might sneak two more overs in if they’re quick.

Four from that one.

1h agoFri 6 Mar 2026 at 7:07am

24th over – Lucy Hamilton back for her second spell

The debutant will get another crack before the tea break. Rodrigues is on strike and driving strongly through point, only for two.

EDGED! FOR FOUR! Rodrigues gets a thick outside edge on that one but finds the gap in the cordon. So many balls have gone through there in this first session, not sure Australia has quite got its cordon right.

Good set from Hamilton, six from it.

1h agoFri 6 Mar 2026 at 7:04am

23rd over cont – Brown has one to come

Deepti Sharma is in the middle now with one ball to see off from Brown.

BIG SHOUT! Full and straightening, smashing into Deepti’s front pad… but not out called. Looked leg-side to me, but Healy is going to review. They’ve already burned one!

Pitching in line, but umpire’s call for both impact and the wickets. Fair call from the umpire, looked like it was a good chance of sliding down to me. Aussies keep the review, but Sharma is not out.

1h agoFri 6 Mar 2026 at 7:04am

BOWLED! Harmanpreet Kaur gone from a Brown beauty!

Patient, relentless stuff from Brown finally leads to a well-earned wicket. The Indian skipper actually looked to defend that one having been really positive through her 15 balls, but a bit of seam movement back in to the right-hander found the gap between bat and pad and took the off stump.

It’s clearly been Australia’s session now, and there’s still time for more before the break.
