Leeds are keen on signing a new winger, and have now set their sights on Liverpool starlet Ben Doak.

The Whites failed in their pursuit of Igor Paixao as he chose Marseille instead, but have not given up on strengthening the position.

Leeds have now targeted Doak, who looks likely to leave Liverpool after an outstanding campaign out on loan.

Several Premier League sides are interested in the 19-year-old, and Leeds have now learned the asking price to bring him to Elland Road.

With Mateo Joseph now agreeing a move to Mallorca, Leeds are aiming to recruit in the attacking department as soon as possible.

With this in mind, they have now made contact with Liverpool over a move for Doak, and this could progress quickly.

As reported by Beren Cross, Leeds have held discussions over a move for the teenager, who excelled in the Championship with Middlesbrough last season before picking up a hamstring injury.

It is reported that Liverpool want £20 million for the attacker, and this would make this a deal Leeds can afford to do.

Paixao would have cost significantly more, but it is currently unclear what Doak’s preferred destination is as he prepares to leave Anfield.

Doak would be a gamble for Leeds

Doak excelled in the Championship, but like others in the Leeds squad, questions remain over whether he can make the step up to the top flight.

The hamstring injury he suffered in February kept him out for the rest of the campaign, and he would take some time to build up his match fitness.

In the long run, £20m could seem like a bargain if he can fulfil his potential and stay fit at Leeds, but in terms of immediate impact, Doak would not currently raise the level.

Willy Gnonto and Dan James look set to start the season, but Doak would be a strong rotation option if he was to join this summer, and he could eventually usurp either player on one of the wings.
