The head of the ABC has called on artificial intelligence giants to pay their fair share to access crucial news and other creative content, declaring they should not be building trillion-dollar companies using others’ raw materials.
Managing director Hugh Marks and the organisation’s chief digital officer, Damian Cronan, said the ABC had evidence that AI firms were continuing to scrape the broadcaster’s content despite explicit instructions blocking the likes of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Anthropic’s Claude.
