Jamal Murray’s left ankle injury will be evaluated Saturday, with coach David Adelman saying the guard’s ankle is “really sore” but noting Murray typically returns quickly from similar sprains.

All-Star guard Jamal Murray left the Denver Nuggets’ blowout loss to the New York Knicks, 142-103, just before halftime on Friday night after injuring his left ankle.

“They’re going to check on it [on Saturday]. It’s really sore,” coach David Adelman said after the game. “You guys all know Jamal. When he sprains his ankle, he usually comes back and plays [quickly].

“This has just been insane. Every time we get somebody back, I feel like that game, somebody else goes out. It has nothing to do with the game; it’s just the way it’s been.”

The injury occurred when OG Anunoby drove into the lane and made contact with Murray, who stepped backward onto the right foot of teammate and fellow All-Star Nikola Jokic.

Murray fell to the floor in pain, clutching his left ankle. With 1:05 remaining before halftime, he was helped to the locker room by teammate Jonas Valanciunas, grimacing as he hobbled off the court. He did not return to the game.

There was no immediate update on the severity of the injury. Murray was initially listed as questionable to return with a left ankle sprain, but ultimately remained sidelined for the rest of the game.

“Jamal got hurt again,” Jokic said post-game. “I don’t know, it’s been the whole season, so hopefully, we can find a way to get healthy and to start playing much better.”

The Canadian guard had 12 points and three assists over 17.5 minutes against New York on Friday.

Murray earned his first All-Star selection this season in his ninth NBA campaign. He is averaging 25.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game.
