Ranveer Singh is all set to seize the throne as Indian cinema’s biggest box office force, with Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge gearing up to create history at the box office. With 8 days to go, the Aditya Dhar directorial is recording unheard-of advance bookings all across the country. As of Monday at 4 PM, Dhurandhar 2 has sold tickets worth Rs. 16 crore across the country for just the paid previews, which open to the audience from 5 PM onwards on March 18.
The tickets are selling like hot cupcakes, as several centers have gone sold out in advance, and there is a huge demand for extra shows. There is a high possibility for Dhurandhar 2 to score an advance booking of Rs. 30 crore for the paid previews alone, which is an unthinkable number for a feature film in Hindi. The capacity is on the rise, and by the day of release, the film could have 7000 shows with a total capacity of Rs. 55 crore.
The advances are yet to open for the full opening weekend, as makers have opted to get the paid previews to go full before opening the sales for the remaining weekend. If all goes as envisioned, Dhurandhar could score an advance booking of Rs. 100 crore for the opening weekend alone, and this will be a legendary record that will take years to fall apart.
Talking of national multiplex chains, Dhurandhar has sold 1.60 lakh tickets in the top 3 national chains – PVRInox and Cinepolis – and this will more than double up by the time of release. One must note that Stree 2 holds the record for the biggest paid preview of all time with Hindi nett of Rs. 9 crore, and Dhurandhar 2 has surpassed that by a big margin with just the advance booking having 8 days still to go for the release.
Aditya Dhar is on his way to becoming one of the rarest of the rare directors to deliver a hat-trick of blockbusters, and a large credit for the success of Dhurandhar goes to his fearless approach towards direction.
