The first and only UFC fighter from Newfoundland and Labrador has retired.

Gavin Tucker attempted to give it one more go in his home country of Canada: a fight vs. Doo Ho Choi at UFC Fight Night 273 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. However, the same day that the promotion officially announced the bout publicly, Tucker (13-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC) notified the promotion of his withdrawal due to injury, his manager Lucas Lutkus, of All In Sports Management, confirmed to MMA Junkie after a report by Eurosport NL.

Tucker, 39, also informed the UFC he will be retiring due to the pattern of injuries that have plagued his career. Had he competed in the bout scheduled for April 18, it would’ve been his first competition since an August 2023 loss to Diego Lopes and only his second fight since March 2021.

Despite his infrequent appearances over his nine-year UFC tenure, Tucker compiled a nice list of marquee wins, including ones over Billy Quarantillo, Seung Woo Choi, and an electrifying debut vs. Sam Sicilia in Halfixa, Nova Scotia.

Post-competitive career, Tucker is expected to continue his role as head coach of Tower 1 Combat Sports Team in New Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
