The latest FloRugby professional club power rankings saw sharp movement driven exclusively by Super Rugby Pacific after every other major league stood idle over the weekend.

With no action in the URC, Premiership, Top 14 or Japan Rugby League One, every rise and fall came from Round 4 in the southern hemisphere, where the Hurricanes, Chiefs, Reds, Blues and Highlanders all banked statement wins.

The biggest mover near the top was the Chiefs, who rebounded from defeat to beat Moana Pasifika 57 – 24 in Hamilton. Leroy Carter crossed for a hat trick as Damian McKenzie returned to steer a fluent attacking display, lifting the Chiefs back into the global conversation and up to 18th overall.

The Hurricanes also surged after dismantling the Waratahs 59 – 19 in Sydney. Billy Proctor finished with a hat trick as the Wellington side overwhelmed the hosts with pace, pressure and ruthless finishing. That result pushed the Hurricanes up to 24th, while the Waratahs slipped to 39th after suffering their first loss of the campaign.

The Reds produced the most significant result of the round by winning 34 – 31 away to the Brumbies in Canberra. Carter Gordon’s late try sealed a dramatic victory that lifted Queensland to 25th and dropped the Brumbies to 14th. The defeat was narrow, but in a round where only one league was active, any result at the top end of Super Rugby carried outsized weight in the global table.

The Blues also gained ground by beating the Crusaders 29 – 13 at Eden Park. Caleb Clarke scored three tries as Beauden Barrett controlled the contest in his return. The win lifted the Blues to 32nd and sent the Crusaders down to 46th, underlining how volatile the early weeks of a season can be in a live ratings model.

The Highlanders joined the weekend’s winners with a 39 – 31 victory over the Western Force in Dunedin. Caleb Tangitau scored twice as the Highlanders climbed to 38th, just ahead of the Waratahs on rating points.

At the top of the overall rankings, Toulouse remained No. 1 on 1648 points, narrowly ahead of Northampton Saints on 1646. Bristol Bears edged Bath for fourth, while Glasgow Warriors stayed third despite not playing.

How the rankings work
These rankings are built from a rolling results based system that updates after every completed match. Teams gain or lose points based on who they play, where they play and whether they win, lose or draw. Beating strong opposition away from home carries more value than beating lower ranked teams at home, while narrow games are treated differently from more emphatic results. The model also accounts for league strength so that performances across competitions can be compared on one global scale. Early season movement can be sharper because teams have played fewer games, while ratings generally stabilise as more data comes in. The aim is to provide a fair cross league snapshot of current club form without relying on reputation alone.
